Finance Officer 25k - 27k

Our client, a not for profit organisation, is looking for a strong Finance Officer with a solid background in charities, who will report into the Head of Finance and will participate in the general running of the organisation. The role will involve working closely with the Head of Finance to ensure the smooth running of the Finance department. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a keen interest in new theatre, dance and live art to contribute to the arts industry while progressing their own career in Finance.

The Finance Officer's Duties:

To maintain accurate control, recording and reconciliation of the company's financial records as defined in the Financial Regulations and Procedures
In collaboration with the Head of Finance to ensure that the Financial Regulations and Procedures are implemented and adhered to throughout the company, and updated when necessary
To contribute to the development of the work of the Finance team by attendance at and contribution to regular finance meetings
To assist the Head of Finance in the preparation of regular management accounts and supporting information
To assist the Head of Finance in the production of reports and financial statements for funding bodies, trusts, foundations, etc
To assist the Head of Finance in the preparation of drafts of the Statement of
Financial Activity, Income and Expenditure statement, Balance Sheet and associated schedules for the company, in a form suitable to be presented to the auditors
Together with the Head of Finance to be responsible for the day-to-day management of annual budget
To be responsible for paying all duly authorised expenditure and receiving all income in accordance with the Financial Regulations and Procedures
To be responsible for receiving charitable donations and preparing the appropriate returns to claim any associated Gift Aid
To record all income and expenditure on MYOB accounting system, and ensure all relevant updates to this system are made on a timely basis
To oversee the efficient and confidential processing of the company's wages, salaries, pensions and banking
To maintain accurate personnel details regarding holiday entitlement, sick pay and other statutory benefits
To perform regular reconciliation of all bank accounts and prepare cash-flow projections
To ensure returns for VAT, PAYE and National Insurance are made accurately and on time
To maintain an accurate fixed asset register and up-to-date lists of all equipment for insurance purposes
To monitor new developments within finance for the arts and the voluntary sector and keep up-to-date on new legislation and accounting practice
To support the Head of Finance in overseeing the work of the Finance Assistant
To support the Head of Finance and the Finance Manager in the financial management of all client and associate artists and companies
To deputise for the Head of Finance in his/her absence

The ideal Finance Officer will:

Have experience in a similar role within a small to medium size charity
Have knowledge and experience of computerised accounting packages, preferably MYOB
Have good computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel
Have experience of processing payroll and VAT
Have a mature, responsible attitude and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders
